We find “the Earth hangs upon nothing” in the book of Job – which is one of the oldest books of the Bible, probably being written sometime between 1900 and 1700 BC. Job 26:7 states that:

He stretcheth out the north over the empty place, and hangeth the earth upon nothing.

This view of the earth hanging in space was considerably ahead of its time, and well ahead of western astronomers. Despite some confused ideas of the Catholic church in the middle ages, the Bible itself shows itself to accurately represent the modern astronomical conception of a spherical earth moving through space.
